Paper Industry has cut emissions by 42% since 1990

Paper manufacturers in Europe have reduced emissions by 42% since 1990 has said the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI).

CEPI's fourth Sustainability Report, which was released last week, hailed the "impressive performance of the industry and said that, despite the recession, paper manufacturers are delivering on their targets" !!

The report also says that paper was the only industrial sector to reduce emissions under the EU Emissions Trading System in 2008 against 2007 levels and that its recycling has increased to 66.6% which is higher than the target set for 2010.

International Coastal Cleanup - Over 1 million plastic bags found

As previously mentioned weekend of 19th & 20th September was the 24th International Coastal Cleanup and here some numbers from this year report:

11,439,086 debris items were found worldwide which represent 3,402 tons (the weight of 18 blue whales - the largest whale in the world) and 1,377,141 of these items were plastic bags (12%). Another shocking number is 29%, Europe has the highest percentage of Ocean/Waterway Activities debris - Ocean/Waterway Activities: people engaged in recreational fishing and boating, commercial fishing, cargo/military/cruise ship operations, and offshore industries such as oil drilling contribute to marine debris.

Marine debris problem is solvable, and often through relatively simple or existing mesures. Armed with knowledge about the most prevalent components of marine debris, we can make informed policy decisions and expand recycling and other trash-reduction programs. We can improve technology and reduce packaging : recycle, reuse and properly dispose of trash to keep these items out of the ocean in the first place.

Hills Waste Solutions Ltd are commited to the improvement of the management and operation of their core business activities which impact on the environment. Their environmental management system (EMS) allows them to manage operations in line with defined environmental policies, objectives and relevant legislation and procedures. All visible waste is inspected on arrival at one of our waste treatment facilities and, where appropriate, sent to one of our waste transfer stations where recyclables are separated. Material that is unsuitable for recycling is disposed of at landfill as a last resort.

Paper Bag Co - Greener than ever

According to the Environment Agency, in England and Wales, there are more than 45,000 pollution incidents reported each year. Most fall under the radar of the media, meaning that many businesses don't realise the impact of environmental impairment liability until it's too late. And it's not an area that only affects the large multinationals that deal with toxic chemicals or hazardous materials - small to medium sized printers ought to take notice as well.

UK "well above" European average for recovered paper collection

The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) has said the UK has cemented the position of its recovered paper collection to well above the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) average.

Of the 11.44m tonnes of unconverted paper and board products consumed in the UK last year, some 8.77m tonnes were recovered - a total of 77% - which is well the CEPI average of 67%. However, CPI warned the volume recovered may decline in 2009 as the consumption of poducts slows in the economic climate.

Peter Seggie, CPI's recovered paper sector manager, said the figures confirmed the continued development of recovered paper collection in the UK in comparaison to the rest of Europe. He also said that domestic's recycle in UK has increased to 35%.

Calvin Klein will launch a new men's perfume in September 2009 called "CK Free for men" and Paper Bag Co was asked to made 30,000 Polypropylene Bags.

The bag reflects, as the name suggests a casual and free-spirit style. We produced medium size bag - 280 x 100 x 300mm - printed 2 colours on 180um clear pp. We also inserted in each of them a 18gsm tissue paper sheet - printed 1 colour.

Aston Villa Football Club has ordered, for the second year consecutive, Rope Handle Paper Bags

The National Trust (Enterprise) Ltd is a client of Paper Bag Co since last year.

We work together to manufacture a 100% Recycled, Recyclable & Compostable Paper Bag as well as Tissue Paper. We produce two sizes bag and tissue paper which were printed in one colour. See picture below.

The Observer - Ethical Awards 2009

We Paper Bag Co are pleased to have produce bags for the fourth annual Observer Ethical Awards, in association with Ecover. The Observer Ethical Awards are instrumental in bringing green issues to the forefront of consumer minds and making businesses reassess their attitudes towards sustainability.

The Observer's directives were to produce a Luxury Bag which had to meet all environmental characteristics. We worked together to create a coated board which is made from 90% recycled content. We also printed the bag (2 colours) using vegetable inks and fit them them with natural cotton handles.

Did you know ?? We can overprint on any of our stock bags.

Our Twisted Handle Paper Bags, can be overprinted in 1 colour although our Rope Handle and Ribbon Gift in white can be overprinted up to 4 colours.

The minimum order quantity is only 600 bags - so why not have your bags printed next time your order some from only 37p each (based on 180 x 80 x 230mm bag, overprinted 1 colour, MOQ 600 bags).
